what you're about to see is a video made by john tesh of entertainment tonight and apparently a keyboarding god. it's him doing the "nba on nbc" theme that he apparently composed--and couldn't be more proud of.
i've watched this video several hundred times and will several hundred more. watch in amazement with me and notice the many wacky things present.
1. he's dressed like a waiter at a crappy restaurant that takes itself way too seriously. the silly vest with the neck thing with a button that isn't a tie that you'll wish you could choke him with as the video goes on.
2. not only does he mention he has the original tape from his answering machine that he left himself the message with the idea for the song, but he points out it has to be played on the original answering machine...wtf is he doing traveling with his answering machine? couldn't he have left it at home? and how is he going to get messages while he's away? and how is he going to leave himself more brilliant ideas if he can't call his answering machine?
3. he's leaving a message for himself and has to say "hi, this is a message for me." was that really necessary? was he going to get home at some point and wonder why he called his house making random noises? was he then going to wonder who those noises were for?
4. he really enjoys his own message. watch as he bobs his head in rhythm with the brilliance. don't forget the lil' dance.
5. he then turns to the audience who applauds as if he's robin williams smiling between incoherent mumbles...AND BOWS...fucking bows while putting up the "oh no stop it" hand. you can do one or the other john, but not both. doing both makes you look silly.
6. as the applause dies down john decides to remind us the song is about basketball and begins dribbling an invisible ball. DRIBBLING. suddenly the crowd joins in clapping rhythmically to the fake dribbling as john skips, yes skips, his way to his keyboard while insuring the referee of crappy music won't call him for a travel. he forgets referees don't call travels in nba games anymore so the dribbling was unnecessary.
7. he then jumps right to his casio where he begins playing the theme to "nba on nbc." he's got that cocky "this is so amazing even i have to admit it" smile on which gets bigger as the performance is carried by a fairly large orchestra. notice you never see a "i'm fucking playing a keyboard in front of people that paid to see me and i'm embarrassed for both them and myself" face.
8. as the performance goes on we get our first glimpses of "wish i was yanni" guy on the violin, he's dressed in a homosexual captain crunch outfit. which is soon followed by the first dramatic flare arm wave out of tesh.
9. it gets better as the camera focuses on even sillier looking waiter guitar guy who starts a solo before being joined by gay captain crunch yanni guy on the violin for what can only be described as a minute of magic.
10. back to tesh for a rehash of the original theme with keyboard and dramatic flare #2.
i defy you to not watch this video 100 times in the next day or two...
and share any observations you may find while obsessing over it, would ya?
john tesh gives douche chills
playing nba theme song
just can't stop watching

The "minute of magic" definitely had me laughing. And I dare anyone to watch 3:24 to 3:29 and not want to kick the crap out of him.
I don't know if it's up to "MC Rove" standards (search youtube for it or check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdvHwtRdg_I&feature=related -- seriously, why did he think impersonating Cookie Monster while pretending to have flippers was a good idea?), but definitely worth sharing. Thanks for the laughs.

i think my new favourite moment is when he says "as a special bonus to you people...i KNOW you're dying to hear it" in reference to the tape. i didn't catch that until my 350th viewing.
your five seconds are pretty damn amazing though. certainly make me want to kick him in the balls and violate his mouth with the business end of a special belt.
as for mc rove...pretty good i remember that from way back when, but i give the edge to tesh as he's trying to be serious. unintentional humour > intentional humour almost always.
