not often i do a late night post, but this really pissed me off...
so i flipped to sportscenter during the commercial of chopped on the food network (chopped btw, is the most irritating yet watchable show ever. more on that some day) and of course, sportscenter had to make itself part of the michael jackson story. why? i don't know, but everyone else did, so why not?
sportscenter showed a clip of kobe bryant and magic johnson eulogizing mr. jackson (as the new york times would call him). yup, a rapist and the man who has apparently cured aids yet won't tell us how talking about a freaky white woman who liked little boys...
magic johnson, after a fun kentucky fried chicken story shared this little tribute:
"i want thank michael for open up so many doors for african americans. to be on day time shows, late nights shows. he allowed kobe and i to have our jerseys in people homes across the world because he was already there and he opened all those doors for us."
are you fucking kidding me? please tell me you're kidding me. you have to be kidding, because if you're not you just gave credit to a guy who paid $15 million to keep a kid quiet for opening the door for you and others of your race to be accepted in the sporting world.
not jackie robinson, not muhammad ali, earl lloyd, not even pumpsie green...
death's gotta be great
people forget what you did
rewrite history

The way they're going, they paint jackson as the Moses who led them to the promised land. Never mind that he molested little boys, never mind that he held his own child hostage. Never mind all that since he's dead. It's amazing how much people are willing to overlook just to cash in on this topic.
Sure, he did produce good music. Sure, he's a music icon. Let's honor him as that. No crappy and false sentimentality that he's the greatest person ever.

He made great music, but made awful choices too. Everyone wants to deify MJ or loathe him. I think in time the revisionists will settle down, and the truth will emerge.

What really annoys me is that the media seem to have forgotten that this guy was more than likely a child molester. The next thing you know Congress will be putting out a postage stamp or something to honor him!
